KUALA LUMPUR, 8 March 2022 — Over RM5.6 million in public donations to the Media Prima-NSTP Humanitarian Fund (“MPNHF” or the “Fund”) were disbursed in 2021 to support thousands of individuals and communities in-need of aid throughout the year. This was made possible due to the generous donations to the various funds under the MPNHF which have directly contributed to life-saving treatments, poverty-relief and disaster-relief efforts across Malaysia and overseas.
Tan Sri Mohamed Jawhar Hassan, Chairman of the MPNHF Board of Trustees, said: “Society is at its best when it serves as a united force for good. Your donations to the Fund strengthened that force in 2021 which was a hard year for many of us. The Covid-19 pandemic continued to take a toll on us nationwide and towards the end of the year, we were affected by heavy rainfall that left many displaced from their homes and in vulnerable conditions. Amid adversity, there is comfort in knowing that many are willing and ready to extend their support. We would like to thank all donors for their generous contributions to the Fund. It has made a big difference to many lives. We will continue to carry the trust and responsibilities given to us in delivering aid to those in need.”
In 2021, the MPNHF primarily focused on supporting three key areas — medical assistance, disaster relief and assistance towards individuals and communities in need of financial assistance. In medical assistance, your donations to the fund helped 140 individuals undergo medical treatments and life-saving surgeries. To alleviate the burden of those affected by poverty, assistance in terms of cash and food baskets were donated to asnaf in Kuala Lumpur, Putrajaya, and Labuan, benefiting 2,250 individuals.
Donations were also channelled to support the Government’s efforts against the Covid-19 virus through contributions from the Bantuan Kemanusiaan Covid-19 fundraising campaign. This involved the donation of nine top loading vaccine refrigerators to the Malaysian Armed Forces for the delivery of Covid-19 vaccines to remote areas across Malaysia.
Beyond Malaysia, your donations to the Tabung Kemanusiaan Palestin Media Prima have assisted hundreds of thousands Palestinians affected by the continued conflict in Gaza. In 2021, donations were channelled to various medical and humanitarian programmes by the Malaysian Relief Agency and Mercy Malaysia. This includes, among others, funding food basket projects, Covid-19 kits, back-to-school programmes, agriculture livelihood projects, and equipment for health facilities.
The Fund’s most recent efforts involved relief assistance to 240 families whose lives were affected by the floods in Hulu Langat, Selangor in December 2021. Moving into 2022, the MPNHF, through its Tabung Bencana NSTP-Media Prima, will continue to provide assistance to communities affected by flood waters across Malaysia.
Rafiq Razali, Group Managing Director of Media Prima, said: “We are truly touched and humbled by the outpouring of generosity from caring individuals and organisations in support of humanitarian causes. All donations, both big and small, have made a huge difference. Thank you for your kindness. Please know that your contributions are fully utilised to provide assistance and care for those in need, and all administrative costs in running the fund are borne by Media Prima. We can do more in 2022, and will continue to leverage our reach and platforms as a force for good.”
Founded in 1991, the MPNHF continues to exist because of the generosity of our donors who share the same humanitarian vision of what it means to be a responsible and caring member of society. You can support and find out more about the Fund’s community efforts by visiting www.tabungmpb.com.my
