PRIMEWORKS STUDIOS’ MOST ANTICIPATED BLOCKBUSTERS AND DRAMA SERIES TO PREMIERE EXCLUSIVELY ON DISNEY+ HOTSTAR

• Starting 1 June 2021, Malaysians can stream films and series from Primeworks Studios on Disney+ Hotstar.

• ‘J2: J Retribusi’, ‘Wifi Sebelah Rumah’ and ‘Semanis Senyumanmu’  will  premiere and stream exclusively on Disney+ Hotstar.
• Animation titles ‘Ejen Ali’, ‘Ejen Ali the Movie’ and ‘Alif & Sofia’ will also join the stable of great kids’ content on Disney+ Hotstar.

PETALING JAYA – 27 MAY 2021 – Underpinning its support for the local content industry, Disney+ Hotstar has entered into a multi-year agreement with Malaysia’s award-winning content producer and leading aggregator of premium content, Primeworks Studios. Starting 1 June 2021, Malaysians will be able to progressively access films and series from Primeworks Studios, including exclusive premieres of highly-anticipated blockbusters and drama series on Disney+ Hotstar. Viewers can subscribe directly to Disney+ Hotstar from the website (disneyplushotstar.my) or by downloading the Disney+ Hotstar app on Android and iOS devices.

As the key Malaysian content provider for Disney+ Hotstar, Primeworks Studios has crossed a significant milestone and is excited to showcase the top-rated and quality content by Malaysia’s renowned filmmakers on Disney+ Hotstar, together bringing viewers in the region a little closer to made-in-Malaysia stories created and brought to life by homegrown creative talent. 

This was revealed at a media event today with the cast from ‘J2: J Retribusi’, ‘WiFi Di Sebelah Rumah’, ‘Semanis Senyumanmu’, ‘Single Terlalu Lama’ and ‘Kekasih Hati Mr. Bodyguard’.

Among the blockbuster films that will premiere exclusively on Disney+ Hotstar are, ‘J2: J Retribusi’, an explosive action-packed sequel to the blockbuster ‘J Revolusi’, starring Zul Ariffin, Amelia Henderson, the late Ashraf Sinclair and Rosyam Nor. ‘J2: J Retribusi’ will skip its theatrical release and exclusively premiere internationally on the streaming service. Popular drama series ‘Wifi Sebelah Rumah’ (starts streaming 25 June) and ‘Semanis Senyumanmu’ are among the exclusive series that viewers can watch all in one go on Disney+ Hotstar. Customers can also watch selected daily drama series such as ‘Single Terlalu Lama’ and ‘Kekasih Hati Mr. Bodyguard’. 

Disney+ Hotstar will also be bringing ‘Ejen Ali the Movie’ into their fold, the highest-grossing local animation film to date with more than RM30 million at the box-office, a co-production between Primeworks Studios and WAU Animation. Completing the animation line-up will be two previous seasons of ‘Ejen Ali’; and Ejen Ali Misi Juang starring the titular young secret agent and 3D animated preschool series ‘Alif & Sofia’; starring two spunky siblings who find fun in the everyday through song, stories and imaginative play, a co-production between Primeworks Studios and Blindspot Studios. More animation news is expected to be announced in the coming months.   

With Disney+ Hotstar coming to Malaysia soon, viewers will now have a new way of experiencing popular content from the company’s most iconic entertainment brands, including Disney, Pixar, Marvel, Star Wars, National Geographic, FX, 20th Century Studios and more. Consumers can subscribe directly to Disney+ Hotstar for RM54.90 for three months to stream over 800 films and 18,000 episodes, which include their favourite Primeworks Studios’ flagship content in addition to well-loved films and series from Disney’s iconic entertainment brands.
