KUALA LUMPUR, 24 August 2022 – Media Prima Berhad (“Media Prima” or the “Group”), Malaysia’s leading and largest integrated media group, released its results for the six months ended 30 June 2022 (“1HFY22”), recording a 24% increase in Profit After Tax (“PAT”) to RM20.8 million from RM16.8 million in the corresponding period (“1HFY21”). PAT for the three months ended 30 June 2022 (“2QFY22”) rose by 23% to RM15.6 million from RM12.7 million in the comparative quarter (“2QFY21”).

Media Prima’s advertising revenue and content sales continue to be the major contributor to the overall financial performance, with strong and improved momentum across all of the Group’s businesses. Driven by Media Prima Omnia, the Group’s media solutions arm, advertising revenue rose by 9% group-wide to RM370.5 million in 1HFY22, from RM341.1 million in 1HFY21.

The Group’s advertising is led by higher contributions from its broadcasting segment — represented by Media Prima Television Networks and Media Prima Audio — which posted a 15% revenue increase to RM243.8 million in 1HFY22 against the comparative period.

Revenue from Media Prima’s digital business, REV Media Group, rose 15% to RM47.9 million. Media Prima’s out-of-home business, Big Tree, posted a 13% revenue growth to RM56.0 million, reflecting a gradual return in demand for out-of-home advertising.

Content sales revenue rose 39% in the current period due to the increase in demand for local content from existing and new streaming service providers.

Datuk Seri (Dr) Syed Hussian Aljunid, Group Chairman of Media Prima, said: “We are pleased to post encouraging growth in advertising across our businesses in 1HFY22 despite the economic challenges we are facing. This not only indicates a recovery in advertising expenditure— it also reaffirms that Media Prima has become an undisputed leader in the media and entertainment industry. Our television channels remain the most watched in the country while our brands are the go-to sources for news and entertainment content among Malaysians. Moving forward, we will continue to hone this competitive advantage.”

Rafiq Razali, Group Managing Director of Media Prima, said: “Our performance over the six months showcases our ability to capitalise on our strengths. We are heartened by our client’s continuous support and the Group will continue to reinforce its advertising and content creation revenue streams as these are our key strategic drivers. We look forward to unlocking further value for our clients and customers as well as delivering top-quality content for all Malaysians. This, coupled with our continuous process and operational efficiency improvements will bolster the Group against any market headwinds moving into the second half of the financial year.”
