KUALA LUMPUR, 25 August 2023 — Media Prima Berhad (“Media Prima” or the “Group”), Malaysia’s leading and largest integrated media group, has unveiled its Hari Kebangsaan and Hari Malaysia campaign themed Manis Pahit Bersama to celebrate unity and diversity by highlighting the beloved Malaysian kuih.
Uniting under the slogan Stand united and cherish the sweet things that make us uniquely Malaysian, Media Prima’s Manis Pahit Bersama campaign recognises the power of food in fostering connections. With a shared belief in the ability of kuih (Malaysian traditional snacks and sweets) to bring people together, this campaign seeks to create a sense of togetherness and commonality among Malaysians.
This “scrumptious” 360 campaign encompasses a captivating short video, a Tonton exclusive telemovie, and various on-ground activities throughout the Klang Valley during the festive period. Additionally, Malaysians can expect content on television, radio, social media, print media, and out-of-home sites, ensuring broad reach and impact. Through these channels, the Manis Pahit Bersama campaign aims to reinforce the values that bind Malaysians together.
The campaign began on 19 August with Kelas Kuih Malaysia Bersama Jaguh Kartun TV9 at Sarang Cookery in Bukit Bintang, Kuala Lumpur. The cooking class brought together 10 children and their parents to learn how to make Kuih Ketayap, Kuih Angku and Putu Mayam. The next day, Malaysians gathered at Central Market for Malaysia Mega Kuih where they made and distributed over 500 pieces of Kuih Onde Onde. Snippets from these events will be featured in the campaign video, highlighting the unity and love for kuih among Malaysians.
On 16 September, Malaysians can enjoy Kuih Piknik #ManisPahitBersama, a public event in collaboration with Keretapi Sarong, held at Taman Kolonial, Bangunan Abdul Samad from 2pm to 6pm. The event offers cultural performances, workshops, wayang pacak with Tonton, celebrity appearances, and a variety of local food and kuih.
Speaking on the campaign, Media Prima Group Managing Director, Rafiq Razali, said: “This campaign reaffirms Media Prima’s unwavering commitment to nurturing national pride and embracing the multicultural essence that defines Malaysia. Our aim is to inspire a sense of patriotism by celebrating the aspects that unify all Malaysians, with a specific focus on the beloved tradition of kuih, our delectable Malaysian snacks and sweets.”
He added, “The diverse range of kuih serves as a powerful symbol of our rich cultural heritage that binds us together as Malaysians. Whether it’s Seri Muka, Ang Ku or Vade, we cherish them all. In times of both joy and challenge, now is the moment for us to unite and celebrate our shared love for Malaysia by reflecting on our collective experiences and shared values. What better way to celebrate this than through the one thing dearest to our hearts — food!”
