KUALA LUMPUR, 13 June 2019  – Media Prima Berhad (“Media Prima” or the “Group”), Malaysia’s leading fully-integrated media group, announced today that Datuk Mohd Nasir bin Ahmad will be ending his tenure as Independent Non-Executive Group Chairman, effective 30 June 2019.

Datuk Mohd Nasir had informed the Board of Media Prima (the “Board”) of his intention to step down and resign from the Board to focus on his other directorial commitments. He was first appointed as Media Prima Interim Group Chairman on 21 May 2018, and as Group Chairman on 12 June 2018. Datuk Mohd Nasir currently sits on the Boards of CIMB Group Holdings Berhad, CIMB Bank Berhad, SIRIM Berhad, and Prokhas Sdn Bhd. He is the Group Chairman of CIMB Group Holdings Berhad and a member of the Board of Trustee of Yayasan Canselor UNITEN.

In accepting Datuk Mohd Nasir’s resignation, the Board expressed its deepest appreciation and gratitude for his leadership and contributions to Media Prima since he joined on 26 February 2016.

The Group also announced today that the Board will appoint Datuk Syed Hussian bin Syed Junid as Group Chairman of Media Prima effective 1 July 2019. In ensuring a smooth transition, Datuk Syed Hussian will begin his appointment to the Board as Independent Non-Executive Director and Group Chairman-designate effective 13 June 2019.

As the new Group Chairman, Datuk Syed Hussian brings with him over 30-years of professional experience in the insurance and technology sectors, as well as an in-depth understanding of emerging technologies and expertise in corporate transformation.

He began his career with The American Malaysian Insurance Sdn Bhd in 1982. In 1986, he was promoted as the Penang Branch Manager. In 1989, he was promoted as the company’s Senior Regional Manager covering Penang, Perlis, Kedah, and Perak.

Datuk Syed Hussian had also served as an Independent Non-Executive Director of companies in the Media Prima Group. He was initially appointed as Director of Merit Idea Sdn Bhd in December 2003. He had also served as Director at Primeworks Studios Sdn Bhd, Media Prima Digital Sdn Bhd, Metropolitan TV Sdn Bhd (“8TV”), and Ch-9 Media Sdn Bhd (“TV9”). Datuk Syed Hussian was formerly a Director of Tanjung Offshore Berhad, AWC Berhad, Efficient E-Solutions Berhad, and Amanah Raya Reit Berhad.

He is currently the Group Chairman of Western Digital Sdn Bhd.  He is also a Director of all the subsidiaries of Western Digital Malaysian Operations including Western Digital Media (Penang), SanDisk Batu Kawan (Penang), Western Digital Substrate Johor and Kuching. He is also serving on the Board of Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (“UNIMAS”).
