SRI PENTAS, 20 June 2014 – Media Prima Berhad (“Media Prima”) Malaysia’s leading fully integrated media group, today presented RM315,000 donated by the public via its Media Prima-NSTP Typhoon Haiyan Disaster Fund.

The mock cheque was presented by Datuk Ahmad A. Talib, Group Advisor, Corporate Social Responsibility, Media Prima to H.E. J. Eduardo, Ambassador of the Philippines to Malaysia. Also present at the ceremony were Datuk Wira Dr. Haji Bahari Datuk Abu Mansor, National Vice Chairman and Chairman for National Disaster Management, Malaysian Red Crescent and Datuk Abdul Jalil Hamid, Group Managing Editor, New Straits Times Press (M) Berhad.

Media Prima-NSTP Typhoon Haiyan Disaster Fund was launched on 11 November 2013, three days after Typhoon Haiyan devastated the central Philippines. The category-five super Typhoon Haiyan, with winds reaching 313 km/h is described as a major cyclone to hit the shores last year, forcing millions of Filipinos out of their homes and shattering infrastructure.

According to Datuk Ahmad A. Talib, Group Advisor, Corporate Social Responsibility, Media Prima Berhad, “All the donations collected by the Fund will be transferred directly into the bank account of the Philippine Red Cross for their humanitarian mission in aid of the victims of Typhoon Haiyan.

“We would like to thank our fellow Malaysians and the general public for their concern and their generous contributions toward the plight of our Filipino brothers and sisters affected by this catastrophe.”
